Unsightly Oil Spots On The Floor Of Your Garage?

Saturdays mean real estate activity for me--that, and a list of "home maintenance" chores.  I don't know about you, but I'm always looking for ways to make these chores easier.

One thing on my list this week was to try and get the unsightly oil spots off the garage floor.  All I had was paint thinner, so I tried it and it worked like a charm!  Afer you apply the paint thinner, cover the stain with an absorbant material.  I used kitty litter, but I hear that sand, corn meal and baking soda work equally as well.  Let it sit overnight.  In the morning, sweep up the floor and the spot comes with it!

Few things work so smoothly!

If there's anything I can do to assist you--from real estate related information to removing oil spots, please give me a call or e-mail me.  I'd be more than happy to help.

Do You Need Help?

I have a ladder that says "Do Not Step" on the top rung.  Although I've never checked, I assume that all ladders carry the sam warning.  It didn't make much sense to me--not being able to step on the top rung--until I stepped on it and learned, the hard way, that there's a reason for the warning.

It's called  "Safety."

I didn't hurt myself, not badly, but I did learn tow important lessons:  "Do Not Step" on the top rung of a ladder and If something is so far over your head that you consider stepping on the top rung, maybe you should ask for help.

If you're beginning a project or have a question about your home or its care that is "Over Your Head," please remember:  I'm here to help you take the right step safely.

When was the Last Time You
Thought About Your Electric Garage Door Opener?

If your opener was installed before 1986, chances are it may not be up to the current code--meaning, that if it hits something on the way down, it won't automatically reverse.  This feature has saved many children and pets from being seriously injured (or worse) in the past ten years.  I encourage you, especially if you have young children, to check into your garage door opener.  It's a simple thing to get a new one(and relatively inexpensive).  It could save a life.

If you have a quetion about any little thing or if you have a friend or a relative who needs my professional assistance, just give me a call or contact me.  I'll be glad to answer any questions that I can.

Does the Pitter-Patter of Little Feet
Make Squeaks at Your House?

If your kids are teenagers, you may want to leave the squeaks in to herald their late arrival.  If, however, you want to eliminate the squeak, here are two options:

For squeaky hardwood floors, sprinkle talcum powder over the noisy area.  Then sweep the powder back and forth until it falls between the cracks.

Your squeaky wood floors under carpeting can sometimes be quieted by pounding loose nails or boards back into place.  Place a block of scrap wood over the squeaky spot to protect the flooring and pound away.

If there's anything I can do to assist you with real estate related information or home maintenance chores, please give me a call or  contact me.  I'd be more than happy to help.

Have You Checked The Batteries
In Your Smoke Detector Recently?

Fire marshalls say that almost all fire-related deaths can be avoided by working smoke detectors.  A good rule of thumb is to change your batteries twice a year-in the spring and fall when you re-set your clocks.

Tha way your smoke detector will always run like clockwork and your family will always be protected.

So, remember to check your batteries and in the meantime, if you have questions about any "little thing," or if you have a friend or a relative who needs my professional assistance, just give me a call.  I'll be glad to answer any questions that I can.

Have You Changed Your
Furnace Filter Lately?

Being a homeowner, in case you haven't realized it yet, is a big responsibility.  There are myriad things to tend to and some of the little-yet important-things get pushed aside.  From time to time, I will write to remind you about some of these little, important things.  For example:

Have you changed your furnace filter lately?  Did you know that in order to get the maximum amount of energy out of your furnace and increase the quality of the air you're breathing, you should change it once a month?  (That's what furnace repair experts say.)  A new furnace filter is relatively inexpensive and changing it regularly means that you won't have to dust as often.  (How's that for incentive?)

If you have questions about any other facet of home ownership or if you have a friend or a relative who needs my professional assistance, just give me a call.  I'll be glad to answer any questions that I can.

Leaky Faucet?

Did you know that you should only turn your faucets just until the water goes off?  If you turne them too tightly, the gaskets will compress and cause your faucets to leak.  Thus, annoy you to a state of awakeness in the middle of the night.

If you havea a drippy faucet, a quick and easy way to deal with it is to tie a two foot long piece of string arount the faucet so that the drips can travel down the string and into the drain.  It's a pretty nifty way to ensure your uninterrupted sleep.

If there's anything I can do to assist you with real estate related information or by ginving you more home maintenance tips, please don't hesitate to call or e-mail me.  I'd be more than happy to help.
